A Little Love Note For My Love

This post was sponsored by Hallmark Signature through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write this post, all opinions are 100% my own.Adam GregoryWhen thinking back on this year, I instantly think of the many changes that occurred and how I managed to stay sane through it all. I’m going to be completely honest with you guys, some days were hard and ended in tears (I’m blaming pregnancy hormones for most of those days though ;)).

Hallmark Holiday CardsCouple's PhotosMost days were wonderful though and full of adventures with my favorite people. Those adventures will be remembered for a long time to come and will forever be some of my favorite memories. This year was one of the most eventful years of my life and I’m grateful for every experience. Whether they were good or hard, each and every experience helped me grow as an individual.

To be honest though, I don’t think I would have made it through this past year so graciously if it weren’t for my husband, Adam. When thinking about this entire past year (and the past seven and a half years), there was never a moment that he wasn’t there for me. From the many trips to the store for ice chips when I was so sick from pregnancy, to the many times I was homesick in NYC and he managed to put a smile on my face. So, I hope this doesn’t embarrass you babe but I’m dedicating this post to you! 🙂

Love note to your husbandFamily Holiday PhotosI’m so unbelievably thankful to have you by my side. There are so many moments that I just sit back and think about how lucky I am to have you as my forever, my partner in crime and the best daddy to our two little boys. Our life together has been full of ups & downs, as most people’s lives are but I wouldn’t want to do this thing called “life” without you by my side. I hope you loved the Hallmark Signature card that I chose for you (& the fact that it doubles as a Christmas ornament!). I loved seeing your face light up when I gave it to you!

Thank you for encouraging me daily to pursue the things I love and am passionate about. Without your help and encouragement, I might have never had the courage to start this blog. You’re the best photographer and videographer a girl could ever wish for and you’re SO much more than an “instagram husband”. 🙂

Thank you for loving me (despite my flaws) and for helping me through every obstacle we’ve ever faced together. Life isn’t always easy but I’m so thankful to have your love and support for the difficult times.

Thank you for loving our boys more than anything and for raising them to be loving, strong, faithful, respectful and all of the wonderful qualities you’re helping instill in them. They both love you so much and seeing you three together melts my heart.

Thank you for living a Christ centered life & for helping us have a Christ centered family.

Thank you for being willing to help anyone and everyone without expecting anything in return. Your kindness motivates me to be a better person on the daily.

Thank you for everything. I love you forevers and evers! 🙂

Removing Negativity Life

Removing Negativity From Your Life

1024 683 Sheridan Gregory

ASOS TurtleneckFall Womens Style Removing negativityAs I recently shared in this post, I’ve been aspiring to remove bad or negative things from our home and lives. I want to not only raise my boys in a safe home, but also show them how to focus on the positive. There’s of course a lot of negativity that simply comes with life, but removing some of it is luckily up to us. Here are ways I’ve been trying to get rid of toxicity in my life:

Leaving friendships or relationships can be hard — feelings are usually involved and it can even be awkward, but as I get older, I’ve realized the importance of positive relationships. I want to be surrounded by good people and ones that make me feel better about myself, not worse. I also want to show my boys what healthy, respectful friendships or relationships looks like. Dedicating my efforts to strong, happy relationships is important to me — and I’m so thankful for all the ones that I have!

I have a lot of learning to do here, but I do appreciate the awareness that companies like Honest and goop are bringing out. There’s a lot of scary stuff in the products we clean our houses with, our makeup, and even what we put on our kids’ skin. Like I said, I’m still figuring out where to draw the line of safety vs. convenience as a mom (it’s hard right?!), but this is definitely more on my radar lately.

This is tough because sometimes you need mindless reality TV, but I do try to limit it. A lot of the shows that I love (hello, Housewives & Kardashians) are full of negative vibes and hostile behavior, and I can’t help but notice that it’s not adding anything positive to my life. Of course I need it here and there, but I do take breaks from that type of TV if I’m feeling down or overwhelmed. I’ve been loving This Is Us though! Anyone else?

I’m excited to keep exploring toxic, negative things in my life and how to get rid of them. Do you ever feel weighed down by negativity? How are you removing negativity from your life?

Comment below with how you’re removing negativity!

The Perfect Holiday Dresses

Macy's Holiday Beaded Black Dress Macy's Beaded Dress Sheridan Gregory Holiday Hairstyles Beaded Little Black Dress Macy's Holiday DressesBeaded Black Dress

The Holidays are quickly approaching & I honestly could not be more excited! This is my absolute favorite time of the year for so many reasons. My top two reasons being Holiday dresses & spending time with loved ones. The best part of all is that loved ones & Holiday dresses are usually combined for parties & events!

Onto this look though.. The second I saw this dress from Macy’s I knew I wanted it! No, scratch that. I knew I needed it! Seriously though, if my face were an emoji, it would have 100% been the heart eyes emoji. The beading on this dress is absolutely stunning & it’s even more stunning in real life. I’m looking forward to the first party of the season because I can guarantee you that I’ll be wearing this! Also, a little PSA, it comes in a maxi version as well!

Macy’s has so many beautiful dresses that I’m going to find any & every excuse to purchase a couple more. (I’ve linked a few of my favorites below for you guys!) Not only for the Holidays but for every occasion you could possibly think of. Whether it’s for work or a night out, I guarantee they have something that will make you the star of the show!

As I was scrolling through their site to find this dress, a random memory popped into my head & made me realize that I’ve been shopping at Macy’s for as long as I can remember. One of my favorite memories to date though was definitely the search for my Winter Formal dress my junior year. My dad had a work trip in NYC planned & surprised both my mom & me with tickets to tag along. If I remember correctly, that was my first trip to the Big Apple & to say I was excited would be the understatement of the century!

Since the trip fell right before my Winter Formal, my mom thought it would be the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone: go shopping in NYC & find the perfect dress. Low & behold, we found ourselves in the iconic Macy’s (the one with all the incredible window displays that you see in movies!) & found the perfect dress together.

That will probably always be one of my favorite memories because it was such a special experience all around. Now, almost 10 years later, I’m still finding myself stopping into Macy’s or scrolling through their site to find dresses for every occasion & I have a feeling that’s never going to change. 🙂

Thanks to Macy’s & ShopStyle for sponsoring this post. Per usual, all opinions are my own.

Staying Organized

How To Stay Organized As A Blogger

1024 683 Sheridan Gregory

Blogging Tips Free People Floral DressSomething I’m always interested in learning from other bloggers or small business owners is how they stay organized. Running your own business comes with a handful of responsibilities that make organization a must, and I rely on certain techniques to make it easier on myself. I definitely notice that when I have things together, life just runs more smoothly in general. My mood is better, I have more time for the boys, and I’m definitely less stressed. Since some of these techniques have been so helpful for me, I wanted to share them with you. I hope they work for you!

The 2-minute rule

I can’t remember where I learned this, but basically the rule suggests taking 2 minutes at the end of each work day/session to clean up. Pick up your desk, take the coffee mugs back to the kitchen, put your computer away, whatever. Then, when I start working the next day, I can get right into work rather than clean.

Editorial calendar

When I’m really prioritizing organization with work, I’m sticking to an editorial calendar. I hate the feeling of not knowing what I’m posting the following week and just throwing together a post, so instead I’ll take the time to plan out the next couple weeks. Also, if I get to a day where I either don’t feel like writing about that planned subject, I have a list of others to choose from. Having a short- and long-term idea of what’s coming next is incredibly beneficial for my brand.

Daily to-do list

On top of an editorial cal, I’ll make a list of what I need to do—for work and life in general—each morning. I put a star by the 3 most important things that I have to get done, and if the boys’ schedule works out, I do those first. If not, I plan out the day to make sure those 3 things will be done for sure. Having an idea of what I need to do each day helps significantly, plus it feels good to get it all out of my brain. Whatever I don’t get done, I move to a list for the next day.

Pre-schedule posts

Planning posts—for Twitter, Facebook, etc.—in advance is great. This way I don’t have to post randomly throughout the day while I’m taking care of other things, and I can assure that I have social posts to match a blog post when one goes live. Spending an extra 5 minutes or so after I write up a blog post seems to be the best way to do this.

All of these are pretty simple, but they are definitely effective! Do you have any organization tips?

Making Yourself A Priority

Making Yourself A Priority

making mom priority ASOS Tan Cardigan Clad + Cloth DressTan SweaterLace Up Flats – Gold Watch – Sunglasses – Necklace

With the outpour of support from my post (thank you all!) about life’s changes and what I want to incorporate into this blog, I’d love to talk about making yourself a priority. As women, and especially moms, the to-do list that comes with life gets long, right? It’s in our DNA to take a lot on, sometimes too much. There’s not only society pressure, but the pressure we put on ourselves to keep our relationships going, look good, feel good, be a quality mom, sister, friend, partner, keep the house together, maintain a career, whatever. It’s a lot!

It can be easy to put others first and ourselves last, but at some point, it’s our duty to put the focus back on ourselves. It can seem like an oxymoron, but I think putting time into yourself ultimately makes us better for those we love. I also want to teach my boys that while women can handle a lot, we also deserve time for ourselves—just like everyone does!

You’ll probably have other things that refresh you and make you uniquely feel good, but here are some of my favorite ways to focus on myself.

Bath time

When my husband is kind enough to take the boys and let me have some mama time, I’ll take a bath, turn on “spa” music, put a face mask on, throw some epsom salt into the water, and either read or close my eyes. Something about sitting in warm water is so relaxing, and I come out 30 minutes later feeling like a new person. After the boys go to bed is a perfect time if my husband is busy.

Solo grocery shopping

It makes me laugh to think how happy this task makes me when I’m by myself since it’s so mundane, but browsing the farmer’s market or store alone is so blissful. I have time to look around and check labels, and I’m not moving as quickly as possible like I am when the boys are joining. Instacart (during nap time) is almost as nice for the days I don’t have time to get to the store.

Magazines and manicures

Ahhh, there’s not much better than going to the salon for a manicure and solid reading time. Not only am I getting pampered, but I’m catching up on mindless reading and just zoning out. Feels amazing!

Mom or not, I think it’s important for women to get their alone time and bring focus internally. Do you have a favorite way to pamper or prioritize yourself? I’d love to hear!

How To Simplify Life

4 Ways To Simplify Life

1024 576 Sheridan Gregory

Forever 21 Green CardiganEmbroidered Clutch Ways to simplify lifeGreen SweaterBlack Ribbed TeeLoafers – Black & Gold WatchEmbroidered BagSunglasses

It seems like whenever I talk to friends or family, everyone answers the question of “How are you?” with “busy!” I definitely do it, too, but it’s kinda scary that life seems to get crazier and crazier, right? And with my boys growing up, I want to prevent them – at least as much as I can – from needing to be constantly over-stimulated. I think it’s important to practice simplicity whenever possible, so I’ve been creating ways to keep things uncomplicated.

I hope some of these ideas work for you, too!

1. Phone breaks

Half the time I’m on my phone, I’m trying to multitask 5 other things which gets overwhelming quickly. Plus, a lot of time, I’m just trying to get through my Instagram feed or something silly. So, I’ve been leaving my phone alone for an hour a couple times a day. Taking a break from it lets me focus on the boys, my husband, or myself in a stress-free, calm way!

2. Organize closets

I’m definitely guilty of having messy closets, but when I’m feeling overwhelmed with life, cleaning out our closets helps. It not only makes getting the boys ready easier because I know everything in their room actually fits, but it helps me pick out clothes for myself, too! I’ll forget about an outfit I want to shoot if it’s hidden in a crazy closet. It’s also one less mess to stare at and get frustrated by daily. Plus, it feels great to donate old items and detoxify a bit.

3. Find go-to recipes

This is important if you have a family or not because figuring out meals can be time-consuming. Every couple months, I like to go through my recipes and update them with some new easy, simple meals for the season. I’ll make a list of ingredients for all the meals, then will go to the store and get a couple meal’s worth of each. That way I know what options I have and the ingredients are ready to go.

4. Keep cards and wrapping paper on hand

I used to wait until the last minute to get cards or wrapping paper for gifts, but then I started buying them in bulk. You can get the stock cards that are blank inside and use them for any occasion which is really simple. Then, having wrapping paper, a few sized bags, and tissue paper stored away is a huge help as well. One less thing to do before a party, yay!

Do you guys have any tips or ways to simplify life?

ways to maintain a healthy relationship

The Perfect Lace LBD / 3 Ways To Maintain A Healthy Relationship

1024 683 Sheridan Gregory

Fall is by far my favorite season. I can’t get enough of the pumpkins, cozy weather (although we have yet to get that here in LA!), & my all-time favorite is the change in my wardrobe. While I love a little black dress all year round, Fall brings out the best of the best!

Elie Tahari Lace DressElie Tahari DressThis lace Elie Tahari LBD that I picked up from Saks Fifth Avenue is one of my all-time favorite dresses. The lace detail along the neckline & down the sleeves is absolutely stunning, while the classic shape of the dress complements any body type. I have loved anything & everything by Elie Tahari for years & I love all of the stunning dresses created for Fall (this dress is beyond stunning & I’m dying to find a special occasion to wear it to!). To be honest, Elie Tahari is one of my favorite brands sold at Saks Fifth Avenue because I legitimately love every single piece. All of the lace details & stunning silhouettes this season are screaming my name! Every dress is perfect for date night, girls’ night out, or any special occasion. I’m sharing my favorite Elie Tahari dresses from Saks Fifth Avenue at the bottom of this post for you guys. Let me know which one is your favorite! I honestly can’t choose just one because they are all that amazing!

thebalm matte lipsPerfect LBDLace Shoulder DressI wore this stunning little black number for a date night out with my hubby this past weekend & while we were out, we started talking about our relationship & how we can continue to keep it healthy. I figured since I’m sharing more with you guys, that I would share 3 ways to maintain a healthy relationship (our version of course ;)).

Elie Tahari Lace1. Date

I know this sounds so cliché but I think this might be the most important way to maintain a healthy relationship. Dating shouldn’t stop just because you get married! It’s so important to take the time out of your busy schedules to get dressed up (this is where that stunning LBD comes in!) & go out with just the two of you. We have found that when we go awhile without a date, our relationship isn’t as on point. With two kids & busy schedules, it’s so easy to put off time for just the two of us. Honestly though, this is something that can’t be put off! & For those of you on a budget, you don’t have to plan an extravagant date night. Trust me, we rarely have those! We usually just get dressed up & go out to dinner OR put the kids down for bed & make a special dinner at home for just the two of us. There are so many easy ways to incorporate date night into your relationship that I truly don’t think there is any excuse for not having one.

2. Daily Reflection

Whether you’re religious or not, daily reflection with your spouse is SO important. We have made it a point to do daily scripture study together because when we’re growing closer to God, we’re growing closer together. We have built a Christ-centered marriage from day one & I know that that is the reason we have so much happiness in our lives. Whether you’re going through a hard time, stressed from work, or having the best day you could ever imagine, it’s so important to reflect on everything you’re thankful for. There is ALWAYS something to be thankful for guys! If you’re not religious, try meditating together. There is something so special about being in tune with your spiritual side, no matter what you practice spiritually!

3. Be Active

This might seem like a unique way to keep your relationship healthy… But I promise it helps! Back when we didn’t have kids, Adam & I used to work out together at least 3 times a week. It was perfect because we could work on maintaining a healthy body, while enjoying time together & maintaining a healthy relationship. We found activities that we both enjoyed, like hiking or even just playing toss with a baseball or football. Now that we have the boys, we usually have them tag along for these activities BUT that doesn’t stop us from getting out & finding ways to be active together. A healthy body makes a healthy mind & in my opinion, these two combined lead to a happier person!

Patch Jacket

DIY Patch Denim Jacket

DIY Patch Denim JacketDIY Patch JacketStars Patch – Traveler Patch – Craving Wilderness Patch – Out to Live Patch – Denim Jacket

I’ve been seeing patches all over jackets (& clothes in general) these days! To be honest though, I haven’t found one that 100% suited my style. So, I decided to make one myself!

This DIY patch denim jacket was incredibly easy to make & I really love the way it turned out. Kannon even loved it so much that he wants to make one for himself! (I’ve been trying to do more activities & DIY’s with Kannon lately to keep him occupied since he’s not in school yet). We will probably use different patches for his jacket but there are SO many different patches you can find online & I’m sure you could find a ton in your local craft store as well.

The ones I used are iron on but if you found some that aren’t, it would be really easy to secure them by sewing them on yourself. I’m not a sewing genius by any means! I’ve taken a couple classes when I was younger but haven’t sewn in years. But you could hand stitch them on & I truly believe anyone can accomplish that 🙂

If you decide to make one yourself (or any patch DIY), I would love to see how it turns out!! This was a quick but fun project & it’s perfect for Fall.
