I love that it’s finally winter-feeling (even in LA!), but I always forget how cold weather comes with dry air and skin and a bunch of other factors. I recently spent some time going through closets and my bathroom to swap out “summer” products items, and have replaced them will things that make more sense for winter. Here’s what I’ve been adding to my routine lately in case you’re interested:
Conditioning treatment
I’m decent at taking care of my hair year-round, but with winter comes longer, hotter showers (can’t help it!) and super dry hair. Does this happen for anyone else? Using a deep conditioning treatment 1-2x a week helps a lot for me. Sometimes I’ll even leave one in after the shower (this is the one I’m currently using & it’s super affordable), tie my hair into a bun, then sleep with the treatment on. I definitely have to wash my pillowcase the next day and feel kinda gross, but my hair does SO much better after this trick.
Humidifier
Such a lifesaver for recycled air in our home during cold and flu season! Not only does this help us all breathe better, even through sniffles, but it’s great at adding moisture to the air. I notice a difference with my skin and feel better internally. I run the humidifier during the night and like to have a couple in the house. This one & this one are our favorites because they’re compact & can be used anywhere!
Face and body oil
I use face oil before bed all year (I’m currently obsessed with this one for morning & this one at night), but during the winter I apply it 24/7. My favorite winter trick is adding a little dab of oil under makeup if my skin is crazy dry. It adds a nice dewy finish and makeup seems to apply better vs. lotion if I’m at all flaky. I also put it all over my body—even on top of body lotion sometimes—after the shower. Ahhhh.
Oil diffuser
More oil! Since we’re not opening the windows and clearing out the air as often in the winter, I’m really into diffusing oil. It’s the perfect swap for candles and smoke, and it actually cleanses the air and makes it safer to breathe in. Plus, a little lavender oil before bed is heaven. Eucalyptus is my favorite for day time! This one is a great option if you’re in the market for an oil diffuser!
