Road trips are basically in my blood at this point. Growing up, we took so many road trips as a family that I honestly couldn’t count if I tried. Later on, as a teenager, I continued the tradition & took a lot of road trips with friends. While some people loathe road trips, I personally think they’re some of the best adventures! Taking road trips with 2 kids under 4 (or children in general) might sound daunting, we always have a fun adventure & make so many fun memories.

We get asked all the time how our boys do on long drives &, to be honest, they do really well! Our secret? We just prep them young haha. From the time they are born, we get them used to their car seats. I mean, why not get them used to things they’ll be sitting in for the next 7-8 years of their lives? It honestly makes life so much easier for those times when you have to be in the car for an extended period of time. When they’re really young, though make sure you don’t have them in their car seats for too long of stretches (it can give them a flat skull) & make sure they’re not napping in them unsupervised (they can stop breathing).

Another thing I highly recommend is to have lots of snacks & “checkpoints”. My mom came up with the “checkpoint system” when we were kids. I’m sure all of you road tripping kids had something similar! & every hour (if we behaved well), we were able to choose a little treat. If you don’t want to give your kids sugar, I highly suggest going to the dollar store or checking out Target’s dollar section & picking out little toys or coloring books that they can play with. The key is to keep them occupied & looking forward to something so they’re not constantly whining or asking, “are we there yet!?”

The last thing I recommend for road trips (& the thing that makes them the best adventures), is to take your time! If the kids are getting cranky, stop & let them stretch their legs. Sure, it takes longer that way but trust me, those times will probably be some of your favorite moments. I have so many memories of Kannon running around & having fun in the most random places on road trips. You would be surprised how much fun you can have in the middle of nowhere if you just stop stressing about getting to the destination & make it an adventure 🙂

DIY Patch Denim Jacket

I’ve been seeing patches all over jackets (& clothes in general) these days! To be honest though, I haven’t found one that 100% suited my style. So, I decided to make one myself!

This DIY patch denim jacket was incredibly easy to make & I really love the way it turned out. Kannon even loved it so much that he wants to make one for himself! (I’ve been trying to do more activities & DIY’s with Kannon lately to keep him occupied since he’s not in school yet). We will probably use different patches for his jacket but there are SO many different patches you can find online & I’m sure you could find a ton in your local craft store as well.

The ones I used are iron on but if you found some that aren’t, it would be really easy to secure them by sewing them on yourself. I’m not a sewing genius by any means! I’ve taken a couple classes when I was younger but haven’t sewn in years. But you could hand stitch them on & I truly believe anyone can accomplish that 🙂

If you decide to make one yourself (or any patch DIY), I would love to see how it turns out!! This was a quick but fun project & it’s perfect for Fall.

DIY-Relaxing Lavender Body Scrub

It’s almost the weekend & I literally could not be more excited about it! It seems like life has just gotten super busy the past month or so. It’s always good to be busy but you need to balance the busy with some relaxation or you will eventually crash. It’s been hard lately balancing Adam & I both working & taking care of Kannon at the same time. Neither of us likes to be away from him.. But such is life!
Anyways, when life has me feeling run down, I love to do a little relaxing. My favorite is to do a session of hot yoga & then come home & take a nice steamy shower & use this Lavender Body Scrub! The lavender really is so calming & the way this scrub makes your skin feel after.. Gosh it’s just so smooth! I love making DIY beauty//body products because they are so much more affordable than store bought. If you need some relaxation, definitely give this a try! Guaranteed you won’t be disappointed!
