Favorite Hair Products

If you knew me in high school, you know that my hair has come a LONG way. The damage I did to my hair in my early teens was absurd & the sad part was that I didn’t even know how much damage I was actually causing. I didn’t know what a good hair colorist was until I was 16-17 & thankfully I found Kadi who is literally a hair goddess! (You can read all about how she colors my hair here) With her help over the years, I have completely transformed my hair & gotten it to a point where despite the coloring, it’s still healthy. I can’t stress how important it is to get your hair colored by someone who truly knows what they’re doing. When you combine that with taking good care of your hair, you will see a drastic difference in your hair’s overall health!

Okay, now onto my favorite hair products that I have been using to help maintain my color & the ones I use to keep it healthy & strong!

Purple Shampoo: This is something that I have to use. If you read this post, you know that my hair can get brassy very easily. I personally use purple shampoo once a week & I have found that with the use of this, I can combat that brassiness altogether. I alternate between this Joico shampoo & this dpHUE shampoo. Both work really well!

Coconut Oil: I have used countless hair masks & I always come back to coconut oil. Honestly, you can’t beat a coconut oil hair mask! It’s affordable (you can buy it at the grocery store), easy to find & gets the job done. I try to use this once a week & I usually keep it on overnight. If you don’t want to keep it on that long, aim for at least 20 minutes. The key to not having greasy hair though is to put the shampoo in BEFORE you get your hair wet. Oil & water don’t mix so you need to break up the oil with the shampoo before adding the water. Trust me, it works!

Leave-In Conditioner: This is a product that everyone should be using! After every single shower, I towel dry my hair & spray in my leave-in conditioner. Your hair could always use a little TLC & this is such an easy way to keep it healthy & strong. I’ve been using this Briogeo spray for over a year now & actually just got another one because I’m almost completely out of my current bottle.

Smooth Infusion: This product by Aveda is a must for me. My hair tends to be frizzy & this really helps smooth out my hair without feeling too heavy or greasy. I apply one pump to the ends of my towel dried hair & it really helps with my frizz. If you have a problem with frizzy hair, definitely give this one a try!

Shampoo & Conditioner: I know that most people say that drugstore shampoo & conditioner are terrible for your hair BUT I beg to differ. I have been using the Garnier Whole Blends for over a year now & I honestly love them. My hair feels amazing & they are incredibly hydrating. So if you’re looking for good shampoo & conditioner that doesn’t cost a small fortune, give these a try!

Hi there!

I’m about to get a bit personal & dive into a topic that so many people I know struggle with. Are you ready??

Self Confidence

SELF-CONFIDENCE

We’ve all talked about it at some point & I can almost guarantee that each & every one of us has struggled with it at one point or another and guess what, that is completely normal!

I’d say for most of us, our confidence started lacking in our early teens. At least that’s when I started thinking differently & started being a bit too judgmental towards myself. That whole transition from child to teen can be rough! Oh, how I wish I could go back in time & give my 13-year-old self a big hug! While the teenage years are hard, adulthood can take a toll on your self-confidence even more. Yes, even as an adult I still struggle with self-confidence. After having my two boys, my body has gone through many changes. I know you all might not see these changes in my photos but I promise, that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Quite honestly, I’m not 100% comfortable showing the stretch marks on my stomach BUT I have finally learned to accept that this might be a lifelong struggle & work on building myself up each & every day. So with all of that said, I thought I would share 5 ways to help boost your self-confidence that I’ve used over the years & am still using now. The good news though? They have helped in the past & are helping again now!

How to boost self confidence Help Self Confidence self confidence help

1.) Stop comparing yourself

The saying “comparison is the thief of joy” could not be more accurate. Trust me, I have struggled with the comparison game most of my life & it is one of the worst things you can do for yourself. While I’m not 100% cured (I still have my moments, I’m human), I try to accept those thoughts & then think about all of the wonderful things I have in my life. Even if it’s just the little things, there is at least one thing for you to be grateful for!

2.) Have “you” time

Before becoming a mom, this thought never even crossed my mind because I had plenty of time to pamper myself. Now, it’s a luxury if I can use the bathroom by myself! TMI? Probably but I’m basically an open book at this point. Seriously though, make time for yourself! No matter how busy you are, find time to pamper yourself a bit. Go get a manicure (or give yourself one if you’re on a budget!), just do something that makes you happy & makes you feel good about yourself. Once again, it can be a small thing or a big thing, it’s just so important to give yourself a little something. You are important & deserve it!

3.) Accept imperfection

NO ONE is perfect. I know we all scroll through social media, flip through magazines & see those “perfect” people on our televisions. Don’t be fooled though, those people are not always as they seem & I’m sure they deal with self-confidence just as much as the next person does. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that accepting my flaws actually makes me feel so much happier about myself. Letting go of the things that you can’t change, will, in turn, change the way you think about yourself. Our imperfections make us unique & it’s about time we all start celebrating our imperfections!

4.) Get moving & get outside

Getting out & about can drastically change your mood. When we lived in NYC last year, it was freezing (I was literally miserable) & I didn’t even want to leave our apartment. Boy, was that a bad idea! Even just a walk around the block made me feel so much better & motivated me in every aspect of my life. A little fresh air & a bit of exercise can & will give you that little boost of endorphins you need to get through the day. So the next time you’re feeling down about yourself, get up, get out & get moving!

5.) Compliment yourself

Look yourself in the mirror & give yourself a compliment. This might feel incredibly awkward at first but I promise that even just one positive thought about yourself, can turn your whole mindset around. We all have something that we like about ourselves. Grab a piece of paper, write it down & put it on your fridge or mirror for a daily reminder. You’ll start viewing yourself very differently when you start being kind to yourself instead of tearing yourself down.

What do YOU do to help boost your self-confidence? I would love for you to comment below! Share any tips you have & keep the good vibes flowing!

Until this outfit, I hadn’t worn overalls since the 3rd grade. I’ll be honest with you guys, I was completely against the overall trend until recently. It’s not that I didn’t like them on other people, I just never thought that I would feel comfortable enough to wear them myself. BUT since my goal for this year was to let go of my fears & do things that put me out of my comfort zone, I decided to be brave & just buy the dang overalls! I know, a very small feat for my goal but it was a small victory for me. Go big or go home, right?

Now that I own a pair & actually enjoy this little skirt overalls ensemble, I’ve been eyeing a few other pairs. I figured I would round up my favorites & get your opinion on them, so without further ado…

How do you guys feel about this trend? Is it something you would wear (or already wear) OR are you 100% against it & think that only children should wear them? Sound off in the comments below!

4 Things to Add to Your Winter Routine

I love that it’s finally winter-feeling (even in LA!), but I always forget how cold weather comes with dry air and skin and a bunch of other factors. I recently spent some time going through closets and my bathroom to swap out “summer” products items, and have replaced them will things that make more sense for winter. Here’s what I’ve been adding to my routine lately in case you’re interested:

winter essentialsConditioning treatment

I’m decent at taking care of my hair year-round, but with winter comes longer, hotter showers (can’t help it!) and super dry hair. Does this happen for anyone else? Using a deep conditioning treatment 1-2x a week helps a lot for me. Sometimes I’ll even leave one in after the shower (this is the one I’m currently using & it’s super affordable), tie my hair into a bun, then sleep with the treatment on. I definitely have to wash my pillowcase the next day and feel kinda gross, but my hair does SO much better after this trick.

Black furry hood coatHumidifier

Such a lifesaver for recycled air in our home during cold and flu season! Not only does this help us all breathe better, even through sniffles, but it’s great at adding moisture to the air. I notice a difference with my skin and feel better internally. I run the humidifier during the night and like to have a couple in the house. This one & this one are our favorites because they’re compact & can be used anywhere!

h&m black coat with furFace and body oil

I use face oil before bed all year (I’m currently obsessed with this one for morning & this one at night), but during the winter I apply it 24/7. My favorite winter trick is adding a little dab of oil under makeup if my skin is crazy dry. It adds a nice dewy finish and makeup seems to apply better vs. lotion if I’m at all flaky. I also put it all over my body—even on top of body lotion sometimes—after the shower. Ahhhh.

Sheridan GregoryOil diffuser

More oil! Since we’re not opening the windows and clearing out the air as often in the winter, I’m really into diffusing oil. It’s the perfect swap for candles and smoke, and it actually cleanses the air and makes it safer to breathe in. Plus, a little lavender oil before bed is heaven. Eucalyptus is my favorite for day time! This one is a great option if you’re in the market for an oil diffuser!

Patch Jacket

DIY Patch Denim Jacket

DIY Patch Denim JacketDIY Patch JacketStars Patch – Traveler Patch – Craving Wilderness Patch – Out to Live Patch – Denim Jacket

I’ve been seeing patches all over jackets (& clothes in general) these days! To be honest though, I haven’t found one that 100% suited my style. So, I decided to make one myself!

This DIY patch denim jacket was incredibly easy to make & I really love the way it turned out. Kannon even loved it so much that he wants to make one for himself! (I’ve been trying to do more activities & DIY’s with Kannon lately to keep him occupied since he’s not in school yet). We will probably use different patches for his jacket but there are SO many different patches you can find online & I’m sure you could find a ton in your local craft store as well.

The ones I used are iron on but if you found some that aren’t, it would be really easy to secure them by sewing them on yourself. I’m not a sewing genius by any means! I’ve taken a couple classes when I was younger but haven’t sewn in years. But you could hand stitch them on & I truly believe anyone can accomplish that 🙂

If you decide to make one yourself (or any patch DIY), I would love to see how it turns out!! This was a quick but fun project & it’s perfect for Fall.

I’m not going to lie, this is one of my favorite outfits I’ve worn in a loooong time. I love the boho vibe of this lace up top & this wrap skirt! Plus, this look is completely affordable & can be dressed up or dressed down, depending on the shoes you pair with it. Speaking of shoes, these lace up espadrilles are my current favorite shoes. I’ve literally been wearing them non-stop & don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. They just pair so nicely with every outfit I’ve been wearing that it seems pointless to pull any other shoes out of my closet 🙂

I’m also on a total jewelry kick lately & these drop earrings are perfect for dressing up an outfit without being over the top. Does that make sense? You guys know I love my dainty jewelry so these are such a happy medium between dainty & statement for my taste. I basically love all Kendra Scott jewelry though so that’s not a shocker! On a sad note, the ring I’m wearing in these photos is my “pregnancy wedding ring”. (Meaning the ring I wear when my fingers get too swollen for my actual wedding band) & I took it off in the car the other day to put lotion on & it fell on the ground somewhere, never to be found again! Okay, that might be an exaggeration but we have searched all over the car & we cannot find it for the life of us. I’m worried it somehow got kicked out & we really won’t be able to find it. It’s so sentimental for me because Adam got that for me while I was pregnant with Kannon & I wore it through both of my pregnancies. Sad day but hopefully it turns up someday. Trying to send some positive vibes out into the world & maybe we will be able to find it 🙂

I loved this white lace up dress the second I saw it. It also helped that it was a total steal at under $30. Plus, you guys know that I love those versatile pieces that can transition from season to season. Now that my baby bump is getting much bigger (I’m 23 1/2 weeks now!), I need clothes that can kind of grow with my bump a bit. I wore this look to an event during fashion week & then wore it again a week later for a doctors appointment. Sometimes you just can’t be bothered to put together a new outfit & I wanted to get some quick photos of this dress for you guys. Real life at its finest 🙂

On another note, I get asked quite a bit on social media if we know the gender of the baby & unfortunately, we still aren’t sure! This little love in my belly was curled up sleeping at our ultrasound last week so all we saw was his/her cute tooshy sticking out haha. At least we know that the baby is growing & is healthy! I promise I’ll let you all know the gender as soon as we find out though. I’m terrible at keeping secrets & can’t wait to start buying some cute baby clothes. I honestly haven’t bought a single thing for this little one yet, so here’s to hoping we find out the gender soon!

Let me just get it out there that it was freeeeezing the day we took these photos. Running around for events for fashion week was brutal! I’m obviously still not used to this cold weather 🙂 For all the ladies rocking dresses without tights, I bow down to you! There is no way that I could go out without layers upon layers. I love this black neck tie dress for this reason. You can layer it up with tights & a coat but it’s also perfect to transition into Spring with some lace up heels. If you missed my last post, you can check it out HERE. I talked all about having key pieces in your wardrobe to transition from season to season. Now, here’s to hoping that it’s warm enough to actually walk around tomorrow without freezing!
